National Thyroid Cancer Summit in September

The Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC), in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and several medical organizations, is set to host the National Thyroid Cancer Summit on September 25, 2025 at the Manila Prince Hotel. The event, which coincides with Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week, will bring together experts, institutions, and stakeholders to strengthen the fight against thyroid cancer in the Philippines.

Thyroid cancer ranks among the top ten cancers in the country, most commonly affecting women of reproductive age and working individuals, leading to both medical and socioeconomic challenges. Despite the publication of the Philippine Thyroid Cancer Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) in 2022, there has been limited evaluation of its implementation and impact on patient outcomes.

The upcoming summit aims to address these gaps by reviewing local data, fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, and laying the groundwork for the establishment of a National Thyroid Cancer Registry. This registry is expected to provide valuable local evidence that can guide future updates to the CPG and improve clinical outcomes.

Unlike previous years’ virtual programs, this year’s summit will be a one-day, face-to-face event, featuring lectures, panel discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Dr. Mary Ondine Manalo-Igot will represent PSMO as panelist in the Multidisciplinary Discussions of different thyroid cancer cases. She will also talk on the “Emerging Role of Targeted Therapy in Well-Differentiated Thyroid Cancer.”

Let us show our support for this endeavor with our attendance and participation.
